Arts and Culture TAG: Crafting Wellness - The Intersection of Arts and Mental Health

Tues, December 5, 2:00 - 4:00 pm, In-Person

The utility of art in mental health and wellness spaces is often overlooked, yet it can be an essential component of growth and healing, providing individuals with an opportunity to express their emotions in a constructive and creative fashion. From painting to hip-hop to spoken word poetry, implementing different artistic mediums in therapy-based settings provides immense benefits to those taking advantage of mental health resources in addition to resource providers. Additionally, adding mental health techniques into arts programming can enhance the self-expression and creativity that comes with artmaking.

This will be a creative and interactive space with performances, lively discussion, and action items. Join us as we explore how the shades of art in mental health spaces can help your organization connect with its members through creativity and mental wellness!

Speakers & Performers: The Art of Yoga, Bravemaker, ZiRu Dance: ZiRu Life, Lauren Lin, Neil Murphy, OneLife Counseling, Cindy Donis, LMFT.

Children & Education TAG: Candidate Questions and Education Summit - Outlining Goals & Outcomes

Mon, December 11, 2:00 - 3:30 pm, Virtual

Thrive invites our nonprofit friends to share ideas, questions, and desired outcomes as we plan two big events for this February: the Choose Children Candidate Forum and the Summit for Partnerships in Education.

Thrive, along with Silicon Valley Community Foundation's Choose Children Initiative, will be hosting a candidate forum with a narrow focus on children and families. This Children & Education TAG will be an opportunity to share the questions you would like to hear at the County Board of Supervisors Choose Children Forum in early February. We will also have a primer on the differences in responsibilities between the Office of Education and the Board of Supervisors.

*Election begins February 5 and the last day to vote is March 5. Candidates from district races will be invited to attend the Choose Children Candidate Forum.

We are also pleased to be holding our Summit for Partnerships in Education: Elevating Racial Equity on February 15. We would like to hear from you about your goals and desired outcomes for the Summit as we plan the speakers and sessions with our partners at the San Mateo County Office of Education.

Join us to share your thoughts – your input matters!

Environment & Sustainability TAG: A Vision for Bay Area Resilience - Coyote Point Guided Hike

Thurs, December 14,  10:00 am - 12:00 pm, In Person

Embark on an enriching journey with us as we explore the scenic beauty of Coyote Point during a guided hike led by Sam Herzberg, the Senior Planner for San Mateo County Parks Department. Take in the views as Sam shares insights into the Coyote Point Recreation Area Master Plan he developed as well as the San Mateo County Parks Sustainability Action Plan, both of which improve the sustainability and resiliency of San Mateo County with regards to sea-level rise and other coastal climate vulnerabilities. Sam will also provide an overview of the recently completed Coyote Point Eastern Promenade Rejuvenation Project, a major capital improvement project, as well as the San Mateo County Parks system. These vital plans can serve as models of best practices for the rest of the Bay Area to learn from and implement.

Our meeting point is the Coyote Point Recreation Area. Following our exploration, Thrive will provide a delightful picnic experience at the Eucalyptus Picnic Area. Ensure you come prepared with a water bottle and attire suitable for a coastal hike.

Don't miss this opportunity to connect, learn, and appreciate the wonders of Coyote Point with fellow nature enthusiasts.
