Thrive Alliance and our co-hosts, Climate Resilient Communities, Nuestra Casa, and Rise South City, present The Climate Summit for San Mateo County. The program for the day is below and includes tabling by Community Based Environmental Justice Organizations and plenty of time for networking.

This meeting will focus on coordinating outreach and shared materials from the County Elections Office and partners.

 

Co-chaired by San Francisco Peninsula People Power, the County Elections Office, and Thrive Alliance.

 

This event is in person. We will provide a zoom link for those unable to attend, but participation will be limited. This event will be held at the Sobrato Community Conference Center in Redwood Shores. COVID-19 masks are required for all guests.

Ballot Initiatives Pros and Cons Presented by San Mateo County Leagues of Women Voters

Thurs, October 13, 3:00 - 4:30 pm, Virtual

 

Join Thrive and the two Leagues of Women Voters (LWV) of San Mateo County at this event. As part of its mission to provide non-partisan political information, LWV provides impartial information about the ballot measures each election cycle.

 

LWV will present a non-partisan breakdown of each ballot initiative on the November General Election ballot.

 

You will learn:

  • The intent of each initiative
  • What does a “yes” vote means; what a “no” vote means
  • Supporting and opposing arguments
  • How the proposition is funded and its budget impact
  • Organizations that support and oppose the proposition

Presented by North & Central San Mateo County & South San Mateo County Leagues.

Thrive's Election Education Toolkit aims to amplify and strengthen voter outreach and education in traditionally less engaged communities by addressing the lack of knowledge about the process. On Democracy’s Front Line: Help Conduct Fair, Accurate, Secure and Transparent Elections

Want to help on the front line of democracy? The County’s Registration and Elections Division is seeking candidates for numerous positions. Election workers can earn $22.30 an hour to start as an Office Assistant, helping with the run-up to the general election on Nov. 8, 2022. Numerous other short-term paid positions are also available to help conduct a fair, accurate, secure, and transparent election. For more information click here.

Housing Industry Foundation: Emergency Housing Fund — Applications Are Open

Housing Industry Foundation (HIF) distributes 500 emergency housing grants every year to individuals and families in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties so they can remain securely housed. These grants of up to $2,500 bridge the gap between crisis and stability to help pay rent, security deposits, and utility bills. To learn more about HIF’s Emergency Housing Fund click here.

Silicon Valley Community Foundation: Environment - Community Action Grants

For decades, studies have shown that low-income families and communities of color are less likely to live in a healthy environment. Through the Environment: Community Action Grant program, Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) supports BIPOC-led and allied organizations that prioritize improving access to clean air, water, open space, and food in communities of color and undocumented communities. This program will also support local organizations engaged in countering the climate crisis.

    Silicon Valley Community Foundation: Health - Community Action Grants

    The United States spends more on healthcare than any other country, but we have not been able to achieve equitable health outcomes for all members of our communities. Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) believes that all communities should have an equal role in deciding our region's future. The Health: Community Action Grants aims to address these disparities and improve access to care, strengthen primary care, address upstream health factors, and offer mental health services.

    Silicon Valley Community Foundation: Finance Fundamentals - Understanding Key Language, Concepts, and Practices

    Join Silicon Valley Community Foundation for a three-session training designed to provide core language and skills about nonprofit finance in an expressly political context. Participants will have the opportunity to critically examine how capitalism, patriarchy, and white supremacy shape nonprofit financial reporting and systems – and how we can work to reverse these long-standing injustices.

We have all been trying to forge our paths in numerous “new normal” settings, which begs the question: are we truly making progress toward the future we want to see? Disruption + Transformation is an opportunity to continue that disruption in a hopeful way and create new futures in nonprofit capacity building. This national conference truly reflects the values of inclusion, diversity, community, and environmental stewardship, with an intention to disrupt the status quo and help nonprofit capacity builders forge new, more inclusive pathways to desired futures.
