Ballot Initiatives Pros and Cons Presented by San Mateo County Leagues of Women Voters

Join Thrive and the two Leagues of Women Voters (LWV) of San Mateo County at this event. As part of its mission to provide non-partisan political information, LWV provides impartial information about the ballot measures each election cycle.
LWV will present a non-partisan breakdown of each ballot initiative on the November General Election ballot.
You will learn:
The intent of each initiative
What does a “yes” vote means; what a “no” vote means
Supporting and opposing arguments
How the proposition is funded and its budget impact
Organizations that support and oppose the proposition

On Democracy’s Front Line: Help Conduct Fair, Accurate, Secure and Transparent Elections
Want to help on the front line of democracy? The County’s Registration and Elections Division is seeking candidates for numerous positions. Election workers can earn $22.30 an hour to start as an Office Assistant, helping with the run-up to the general election on Nov. 8, 2022. Numerous other short-term paid positions are also available to help conduct a fair, accurate, secure, and transparent election. For more information click here.
Housing Industry Foundation: Emergency Housing Fund — Applications Are Open
Housing Industry Foundation (HIF) distributes 500 emergency housing grants every year to individuals and families in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties so they can remain securely housed. These grants of up to $2,500 bridge the gap between crisis and stability to help pay rent, security deposits, and utility bills. To learn more about HIF’s Emergency Housing Fund click here.
Silicon Valley Community Foundation: Environment - Community Action Grants
For decades, studies have shown that low-income families and communities of color are less likely to live in a healthy environment. Through the Environment: Community Action Grant program, Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) supports BIPOC-led and allied organizations that prioritize improving access to clean air, water, open space, and food in communities of color and undocumented communities. This program will also support local organizations engaged in countering the climate crisis.

The United States spends more on healthcare than any other country, but we have not been able to achieve equitable health outcomes for all members of our communities. Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) believes that all communities should have an equal role in deciding our region's future. The Health: Community Action Grants aims to address these disparities and improve access to care, strengthen primary care, address upstream health factors, and offer mental health services.

Join Acterra for a virtual event in their Fall Lecture Series. During this event, a panel discussion will feature six dedicated high school students from the Cupertino Youth Climate Action Team describing their advocacy vision, goals, and wins. Audience questions are encouraged.
