Learn how to fully leverage the new California Grants Portal, a project by the California State Library, to showcase on one website the grants being offered on a competitive or first-come basis by over 50 California state agencies.
Shivani Bose-Varela, California Grants Portal Program Manager, will explain how you can utilize the portal to run searches for grants and loans being offered to nonprofits, find contact information for the state agency administering the grant, subscribe to a newsletter alerting you to the latest grant opportunities posted by state agencies, and more.
Today’s fires, droughts, and hurricanes are continually reminding us that climate change is happening now, and that overwhelmingly, the disadvantaged suffer the most. The recent IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report emphasized the need for urgent action. There are many nonprofits and agencies working locally on different aspects of mitigation and resilience. What are the collective goals across sectors? How can we work together more effectively to reach those goals?
Join Thrive for this series designed to collectively focus climate goals based on your priorities. Even if you cannot make it to the event, please feel free to complete the survey. Come prepared to be an active part of the conversation.
This session will be facilitated by Matt Biggar, Ph.D., Founder of Connected to Place.

The Parent Venture: Beyond Being Admitted: Making the Most of the College Experience
Wed, September 22, 5:00 - 6:00 pm
The publication ofFrank Bruni’s,“Where You Go Is Not Who You’ll Be“ brought common sense to the often-overwrought discussion of the college search and selection process. At this Parent Education Series special event, Bruni takes the conversation to the next level to bring further common sense (and even inspiration) to a discussion of ways to realize the promise and potential of the college years. Far from seeing these years as merely a step on the road to a job or career, Bruni—now teaching college students himself at Duke University—will offer thoughtful suggestions about making the most of the college experience.
Bruni will be in conversation with Alice Kleeman, the award-winning former College Advisor at Menlo-Atherton High School, Sequoia Union High School District.
Note: Parents, students, educators, mental health professionals, and community members welcome! Free admission. Simultaneous Spanish interpretation will be available.
