Dena Gunning, Community Risk and Resiliency Specialist for Central County Fire and Earthquake Country Alliance (ECA) Bay Area Committee Co-Chair will then share practical earthquake preparedness actions that you can take as an individual and as an organization.
Building Momentum for Resilience Hubs Across the Bay Area

Join Thrive Alliance and Collective Resilience for a three-part workshop series to understand the landscape of resilience hubs in the Bay Area, learn the concepts and tools needed to develop resilience hubs, and develop partnerships with nonprofits, governments, and funders. We will lay the groundwork to develop a robust network of resilience hubs across the Bay Area for communities that need them most.
The workshops will be interactive, and feature guest speakers with expertise in developing resilience hubs, with opportunities for networking and peer-to-peer learning. The series is free for community members and small organizations, with a suggested fee for large organizations, businesses, and government agencies. These fees go toward speaker stipends and organizer costs, with any remaining funds to be put toward a fund for resilience hub development. Registration signs you up for all three sessions.

If you’re involved in an organization that has identified the need for change but doesn’t know how to make a meaningful impact alone, participating in a coalition or even starting one might be one powerful strategy. The goals of this workshop are to increase your skills and understanding of collaborative processes and structures.
We’ll hear from a great line-up of panelists who will share their insights on developing and nourishing successful coalitions, focused on:
What is coalition-building and why are we doing it?
How to practice democracy and shared leadership in a coalition.
What are the different structures of coalitions, ranging from temporary and informal to highly structured with legal constructs.

Incorporating community voices, including educating community members – particularly those with lived experience of the harms that you’re trying to address – to be at the forefront of decision-making.

Event 2: Healthy Homes for All: Landlords & Tenants Working Towards Electrification

Renters face significant barriers to accessing electrification programs in the Bay Area due to complex qualification criteria and a variety of other factors. The barriers to participating in home electrification programs vary for single-family and multifamily dwellings. In this session, we look to models both in and outside of the Bay Area to understand the design of existing home improvement programs that serve single-family and multifamily home renters. Sean Armstrong, co-founder and Managing Principal of Redwood Energy, will present from the diverse knowledge he has accumulated throughout his extensive experience in multifamily electrification. We will present best practices for collaboration between landlords and tenants in electrification efforts, as well as barriers to their involvement in home electrification programs.

To help comply with a new city rule banning gas-powered gardening equipment starting July 1, 2024, The city of Menlo Park is offering financial assistance to low-income residents, those in pollution-burdened neighborhoods like Belle Haven and parts of Suburban Park, and seniors over 65 can receive up to $250 for purchasing zero-emission landscaping equipment. Gardening & Landscaping businesses in Menlo Park can get up to $1,000, while other businesses are eligible for up to $250.

Lineage & Legacy/Kingdom Love is offering an Adult Mental Health First Aid training program that runs for 8 hours and is led by an instructor. This skill-based training program will equip you with the knowledge and skills to understand mental health and substance use challenges in people. As a first aider, you will be able to identify signs of mental health issues and provide initial first-aid support. You will also learn the Mental Health First Aid ALGEE Action Plan, which will help you support people and connect them to appropriate resources and treatments. To participate, you only need to complete a pre/post-evaluation and a test online before the in-person training.
