Thurs, March 9, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, Virtual
Staff roles can shift drastically during emergencies; planning for who will take on what roles can greatly facilitate an organization's response to emergencies and orient staff to respond. This free 4-hour training will provide an overview of the Incident Command System (ICS) explicitly geared toward nonprofits and community-based organizations in San Mateo County, and organizations will then apply their new knowledge through group exercises. Participants will learn how to effectively prepare and coordinate staff to take on five roles crucial to disaster response and recovery.

These groups will provide an opportunity to share knowledge, support each other, and discuss leadership challenges in 90-minute monthly sessions with eight other peers. Board of Supervisors Agrees to Seek State Grant to Provide New Housing for Farmworkers
The County will seek $5 million in state funds to help local farmworkers become homeowners. That is the unanimous decision by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. The five-member Board voted to authorize staff to apply for a $5 million grant that would fund the purchase of manufactured homes, potentially in partnership with the City of Half Moon Bay. These homes would be located on an as-yet unidentified area of the coast. Local farmworkers – including families and individuals displaced by the January mass shooting – would be eligible to live in and purchase the homes. Click here to learn more.
Board of Supervisors Ends the COVID-19 State of Emergency
The 5-0 vote aligns the County with the state of California. The County will continue to work closely with community- and faith-based organizations to educate residents about residual risks, vaccination recommendations, and programs to buffer economic impacts. To learn more click here.
