Thrive Community Forum: A Summit of Education Leaders on Partnerships in Education

Thurs, September 22, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, In Person

 

Join Thrive Alliance, San Mateo County Office of Education, and Haas Center for Public Service For Stanford for a summit for out-of-school-time providers and school district leaders. This summit will provide an opportunity for districts and providers to network and collaborate, as well as gain understanding and perspective, and identify the next steps for our work together.

 

As a community of action-oriented practitioners, we will:

  • Strengthen relationships between schools and providers to better address equity gaps
  • Explore successful partnership models 
  • Lay the groundwork to build a coordinated approach for holistic programming

Candidate Forum: Board of Supervisors, 3rd District

Tues, September 27, 5:30 - 7:00 pm, In Person

 

Thrive, in partnership with other nonprofits, is hosting a series of candidate forums to elevate the most pressing issues of nonprofits and their communities in San Mateo County.

 

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors oversees county departments, programs, and property, with an annual budget of over $3 billion. 

 

Featuring: Ray Mueller and Laura Parmer-Lohan.

 

Hosts: Thrive Alliance and Choose Children.

 

All districts have changed since the 2020 census report and the redistricting process that followed. District 3 includes the cities of Atherton, Southeast Belmont, Half Moon Bay, Pacifica, Portola Valley, San Carlos, and Woodside, Unincorporated Devonshire Canyon, El Granada, Emerald Lake Hills, Harbor Industrial Park, La Honda, Ladera, Loma Mar, Los Trancos Woods, Miramar, Montara, Moss Beach, Palomar Park, Pescadero, Princeton By-The-Sea, San Gregorio, Skyline, Skylonda, Stanford Lands, Vista Verde, and West Menlo Park.

This meeting will focus on coordinating outreach and shared materials from the County Elections Office and partners.

 

Co-chaired by San Francisco Peninsula People Power, the County Elections Office, and Thrive Alliance.

 

This event is in person. We will provide a zoom link for those unable to attend, but participation will be limited. This event will be held at the Sobrato Community Conference Center in Redwood Shores. COVID-19 masks are required for all guests.

Building a Collective Commitment To Ensure Climate Adaptation and Equity

 

Thrive Alliance and our co-hosts, Climate Resilient Communities, Nuestra Casa, and Rise South City, present The Climate Summit for San Mateo County.

 

At the Summit you will:

  • Learn about adaptation needs in San Mateo County frontline communities.
  • Learn how to bring communities and community-based organizations to the forefront of addressing climate change in the County. 
  • Create stronger relationships between communities and all sectors to shift power dynamics.
  • Build a collective commitment to ensure that communities in the County are prepared for and protected from climate change.

This event is co-presented by Stanford University as an Office of Community Engagement Regional Forum, periodic events that showcase regional collaboration on timely topics and advance Stanford’s mission. We also appreciate the additional support from the Haas Center for Public Service and the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability.

Ballot Initiatives Pros and Cons Presented by San Mateo County Leagues of Women Voters

Join Thrive and the two Leagues of Women Voters (LWV) of San Mateo County at this event. As part of its mission to provide non-partisan political information, LWV provides impartial information about the ballot measures each election cycle.

 

LWV will present a non-partisan breakdown of each ballot initiative on the November General Election ballot.

 

You will learn:

  • The intent of each initiative
  • What does a “yes” vote means; what a “no” vote means
  • Supporting and opposing arguments
  • How the proposition is funded and its budget impact
  • Organizations that support and oppose the proposition

Presented by North & Central San Mateo County & South San Mateo County Leagues.

Ending Homelessness: County Seeks Innovative Ideas

On September 14, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors set up a $2 million fund to kick-start transformational programs to end homelessness, with a focus on assisting unsheltered residents through city/town collaborations with nonprofit partners. Read more in the official press release.

Peninsula Clean Energy: 2023 Community Outreach Grants Call for Applications

Deadline: Mon, October 17, 2022

 

Peninsula Clean Energy invites applications for grants up to $45,000 to collaborate on outreach to residents in San Mateo County or in the City of Los Banos. All 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations or their fiscally sponsored projects with an established track record of public outreach, communications, providing social services, or case management in San Mateo County or the City of Los Banos are eligible and encouraged to apply. San Bruno Community Foundation: Community Grants Fund Deadline

The San Bruno Community Foundation's Community Grants Fund allows local community groups to apply for grants of up to $25,000 to support new or existing programs that benefit the San Bruno community. The Community Grants Fund invests in the many local organizations that form the lifeblood of the San Bruno community, with plans to award multiple grants totaling $300,000 at the end of 2022 for programs taking place in 2023. The FDA has authorized the updated booster for Moderna for adults 18 years and older and for Pfizer for those 12 years and older. Everyone 12+ who has had their primary series should get the updated booster at least 2 months following any COVID vaccine or booster dose.
