Arts & Culture Thrive Action Group (TAG): One Billion in New Arts Education Funding - What Happens Next?
Wed, January 25, 1:00 - 3:00 pm, In-Person, Location TBD
On Nov. 8, Californians overwhelmingly passed Proposition 28, bringing a windfall of arts education funding to schools. While arts education is mandated in grades 1-12, each district must decide how to fund and implement it. The result has been inconsistent arts programming that leaves many children, especially those in low-income areas, with little exposure or access to the arts and creative forms of expression. Many dedicated and experienced arts education nonprofits have emerged to address this issue.
Prop. 28 will provide about $1 billion each year in funding to California public schools using 80% of the money on teachers and aides, and the balance will be used for art supplies and materials. How will this affect our nonprofit arts education providers?

Community Announcements
Expanded Health & Safety Guidelines for Residents with Flooded Homes
As our community deals with the impacts of floodwaters on homes and property, San Mateo County Health urges residents to take precautions to protect themselves and their families. Floodwater may contain raw sewage, animal waste, toxic substances, chemical compounds, fungus, bacteria, and other harmful materials. Storm debris and the effects of power outages may present additional hazards. For health and safety guidelines click here.
County Ocean and Bay Beaches Are Closed Due to Sewage
With significant flooding throughout San Mateo County, sewage has impacted ocean and bay waters at swimming beaches. While sewer system personnel will place beach closure signs as soon as possible, all ocean and bay swimming beaches should be considered impacted by sewage until sampling can confirm the waters are not sewage-dominated. Please avoid swimming in ocean and bay waters until at least 3 days after rain conditions subside and waters can be tested for safe use. For updates, see https://smchealth.org/beaches or call the Environmental Health Services’ beach hotline at (650) 599-1266.
