Strategic Planning Cohort Information Session: Transform the Effectiveness of Your Small Nonprofit
Tues, August 2, 11:00 - 12:00 pm
Come to this virtual open house to learn about Thrive's Strategic Planning Cohort, which will launch in September. Ten organizations will be chosen for this free capacity-building opportunity to develop or update a strategic plan using Mission Met's model. This program is for nonprofit leadership teams of up to three people from small nonprofits (annual budget of $250,000 to $2M) that are dedicated to transforming effectiveness through strategic planning. There will be an application process.
About Thrive's Strategic Planning Cohort:
Nonprofit strategic planning -- despite its intended promises -- can be a pain. It can take too long, cost too much, be too complex, and not deliver the desired results. This is especially true for small nonprofit organizations.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
In this unique and customizable program, you and your nonprofit’s leaders will create a practical and dynamic strategic plan and process that can result in:
Greater fundraising success
Clarity of mission, vision, and values
Increased programmatic focus that minimizes mission creep
An improved organizational culture
Attraction of stronger board members
Reduced staff turnover
These benefits lead to a healthy, sustainable, and impactful organization—the ultimate promise of strategic planning.
This program will be led by Eric Ryan, co-founder of Mission Met, along with the Thrive team.
*Zoom information will be sent to registered attendees.
Voter Education and Outreach Advisory Committee (VEOAC) Meeting
Wed, August 17, 9:00 - 10:30 am
Join us at our next VEOAC meeting to learn what, where, when, and why to engage potential voters for the November election. Everyone is welcome to this training and receive resources for voter education branded for your organization.
In addition, you will learn about Thrive's Election Education Toolkit. This toolkit aims to amplify and strengthen voter outreach and education in traditionally less engaged communities by addressing the lack of knowledge about the process. Give this toolkit to leaders in your community for informal voter education.
Email Yajaira Ortega, Thrive's Policy & Advocacy Associate, if you are interested in more information about receiving the stipend.
Nonprofits and Housing: What To Know and What To Do
Thurs, September 8, 9:00 - 11:00 am
Every city and town in San Mateo County—and the county itself—is currently drafting housing plans for the next eight years, work that will impact every nonprofit in the county and its clients. Called a Housing Element, this planning blueprint will determine in January 2023 how much housing each city will commit to building by 2031.
In a process that started in Sacramento, every jurisdiction assigns how many housing units they must build at varying income levels, starting with very low income. The availability of affordable housing for the rest of the decade, an issue of huge importance to nonprofits and their clients, is being determined now.
Learn how nonprofits can affect the housing supply. Join the Thrive and housing advocate Yimby Action for an informative, action-oriented session. Panelists to be announced.
With support from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, we will host this event in Redwood City at the CZI Community Space. Location details will be sent to registered attendees. A Zoom option will be available for those who would like to listen.
Our minds, bodies, and spirits are each an important component of our being and contribute greatly to our overall sense of wellness. Join Thrive and the County of San Mateo Employee Wellness Team as we build strength in each of these areas, and learn skills that can be used daily.
This month's exercises are designed to help improve our minds, bodies, and spirits, and will feature music therapy, chair yoga, a journaling activity, and a collaborative and fun group poem.
Note: These sessions are not a replacement for professional guidance or counseling.
Zoom information will be sent to registered attendees.
Looking for office space or other nonprofits interested in sharing a location? Contact Thrive and we will help to facilitate a connection.

When disaster strikes, the first response is for ourselves and those in the building with us. Immediately after, we should be prepared to check on the safety and security of our immediate neighbors. The Resilient Hub Model centers that preparedness and response in the anchor institutions of a neighborhood, such as houses of worship and community centers.
