Summer at the Beach: Murky Waters or Clean Coastlines?

Enjoying the beach this summer? How clean is the water? Three of the most polluted beaches in the state are located in San Mateo County. Join us as we discuss what is currently being done across government and nonprofits to prevent pollution and identify opportunities for collaboration to work toward cleaner coastlines.
Covid-19 protocols and the unfamiliarity of a recall election are leading to confusion and uncertainty about the September 14 recall election. If you want to get people excited about voting but still feel unsure of all the mechanics of voting this time around, join us for a super quick training on everything you need to know about the recall election. We will also provide outreach materials and fact sheets to take back to your community.

Hands-On Redistricting Workshop: Mapping Tools, Communities of Interest, and Public Input

Help shape the maps! As redistricting gets underway in San Mateo County and local cities, please join us for an online workshop to learn more about how to share your communities' concerns and map priorities.
We will address:
What a "community of interest" is and why communities of interest are so important in shaping district maps.
How to use online tools that can help you understand your community and its characteristics, and tools where you can draw maps to use in your redistricting advocacy.
How to develop community of interest testimony so that line-drawers draw maps that respect your community's voice.
What are our local issues in San Mateo County and who is organizing.

San Mateo County Launches Office of Arts and Culture
Congratulations to Robin Rodricks, head of the new San Mateo County Office of Arts and Culture, which seeks to connect the dozens of groups dedicated to the arts and culture in San Mateo County.Robin sees a thriving arts and culture scene as a powerful force to help the region emerge from the pandemic, both for the economic and emotional recovery. In opening the San Mateo County Office of Arts and Culture, the County is providing a gathering place for local artists and the art-interested to develop projects that will create beauty, communicate new ideas, and bring communities together.
District Lines Advisory Commission: Seeking Applicants from District 4
The County of San Mateo is seeking applicants who live in District 4 (includes the cities of Redwood City, East Palo Alto and Menlo Park--east of El Camino Real--and the unincorporated community of North Fair Oaks) to serve on the 2021 Supervisorial District Lines Advisory Commission (DLAC), a commission that will study and make recommendations for possible changes to boundaries for the five supervisorial districts.
San Mateo County Office of Community Affairs One Day Give-Back Event
On Friday, August 13th, the San Mateo County Office of Community Affairs will be distributing office supplies at the San Mateo County Event Center from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. San Mateo County departments, non-profit organizations and educators are invited to come while supplies last. Items include: binders and binder clips, disinfecting wipes, cases of copier paper, gloves, extension Cords / surge protectors, hand sanitizer (4oz and 1 gallon bottles), folders (regular and hanging), and stacking storage trays, masks ( approximately 15,000), notepads and steno pads, pencils, pens (many pre-packaged bags with sets of items – great for giving to students!)
