Thrive Leadership Circle Luncheon: Nonprofit Employment Laws & COVID-19

Wed, November 17, 10:00 - 11:30 am

During this session, special guest April S. Glatt, Esq., Partner at Chauvel & Glatt, LLP will present information about employment laws that affect local nonprofits today. She will address laws concerning vaccine mandates, religious and medical exemptions from mandates, considerations when working with volunteers, and other issues currently surfacing in the nonprofit world. As organizations are in various stages of fully in person and fully remote, we are collectively grappling with how to operate safely and legally. Join us for an opportunity to reconnect with your peers as we discuss these difficult issues.

April serves a multitude of nonprofit organizations in the community. Some of her current clients include San Mateo nonprofits Filoli Gardens, San Mateo County Bar Association, Home & Hope, and Peninsula Temple Sholom.

If you have specific questions you would like addressed, please email Georgia Farooq, Thrive Alliance Executive Director, in advance.

Note: This virtual event is exclusively for Thrive member Executive Directors and Chief Executive Officers of nonprofits operating in San Mateo County.

Recent Housing Legislation: Impacts & Opportunities

Tues, November 16, 12:00 - 1:30 pm

California suffers from a deficit of 3.5 million homes. This scarcity feeds poverty, homelessness, sprawl, and erodes the stability of the middle class, and has a disproportionate impact on Black and Latino households. The California Legislature recently passed SB9 and SB10, as well as other housing legislation. How will these new housing laws affect San Mateo County and our housing issues?

Join Thrive Alliance and The League of Women Voters of North and Central San Mateo County for this important discussion. Michael Lane, the State Policy Director at SPUR, a nonprofit working across the political spectrum to develop solutions to the big problems cities face, will lead a panel discussion which will provide clarity on the intent of these measures, the likely timeline for change, and explore what they say about the neighborhoods of the future.

Featuring: Michael Lane, State Policy Director, SPUR; Leora Tanjuatco Ross, Associate Director, Housing Leadership Council; Irving Torres, Director of Community Engagement, All Home.
