Thrive Resource Room

Welcome to Thrive Resource Room, where you will hear about Thrive updates and learn about free and affordable community resources to help your organization! This month we will feature opportunities including fundraising tools, internships, and Thrive member benefits and how to get more involved in our cross-sector community.
What to expect during this session:
Free fundraising tool:Anna Grace Millward, CEO of Stashrun, will present on how to utilize a free fundraising tool, built to transform how consumers align with brands to take action on the world’s most important causes
Student employment opportunities:Eli Poblitz, Transition Specialist for the Transition Partnership Program at the San Mateo Union High School District will be sharing about SMUHSD's new work-based learning program designed to provide up to 100 hours of exploratory paid work-based learning for special education high school students aged 16 or older across the district, at no cost to the employee
Stanford student-employees for nonprofits: Yvette Zepeda, Program Director for the Stanford Community Service Work-Study and Student Employment program, will speak about a program that connects Stanford students with local nonprofits for employment opportunities (organizations will only be responsible for 10% of student wages)

We encourage you to send staff members and volunteers (especially new ones!) to one of our monthly sessions to ensure that they are taking advantage of Thrive's resources and opportunities.
We invite you to join Thrive and the County of San Mateo Employee Wellness Team for another session in our virtual series: Wellness Wednesdays. These sessions are held on the second Wednesday of every other month. From self-massage to mindful art, to movement exercises to meditation, we’ll continue to explore a variety of ways that we can take care of ourselves for optimal health and well-being.
During this month's collaborative session, we invite you to practice stress management techniques such as stretching, self massage, mindful art, and acute stress response exercises.Our speakers throughout the series include County Wellness Team members, behavioral health specialists, massage therapists, and art facilitators. We hope you and your team will join us!

Voter Education and Outreach Advisory Committee (VEOAC) Meeting

VEOAC will be featuring short presentations by Bay Area leaders in voter outreach. Andrea Gil, the Program Coordinator at Youth Leadership Institute (YLI), will be presenting how she engages the community in voter outreach & civic participation advocacy. Andrea leads the Youth Empowerment Training Series, where youth leaders will learn to engage with their local community.
Co-chaired by San Francisco Peninsula People Power, the County Elections Office, and Thrive Alliance.

To gain insight on the needs and challenges of our immigrant community, the County of San Mateo & their Office of Community Affairs invites immigrants (living, working, or going to school in San Mateo County) to take their Immigrant Inclusion Survey. Results from this survey will tell them about the barriers faced, gaps in services, and which programs are working for immigrants in San Mateo County.
Note: This survey is available in 12 languages. All responses are anonymous and confidential, which means nobody will know who took the survey or how they answered the questions. All questions are optional, so you can skip anything you do not want to share.
United Way Bay Area Housing Justice Grants
United Way Bay Area is currently accepting proposals from local Bay Area agencies for three new funding opportunities designed to increase access to stable and affordable housing, prevent homelessness, and address the racial wealth gap. If requirements are met, organizations may apply for more than one opportunity but will only be selected for one grant.

The Parent Venture: How Parents Can Boost Kids' Well-Being and Resilience During the Pandemic

How can parents support kids' resilience and well-being, as we move toward a "new normal"? In this presentation Phyllis Fagell, a licensed clinical counselor, will suggest tools and strategies that parents can use to show patience, empathy, and understanding towards their children.
Fixin' San Mateo County: How Oversight of the Sheriff Can Help Children

Join Fixin’ SMC (FxSMC) to hear from Paul Bocanegra, FxSMC Vice Chair and SMC Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commissioner, and Joaquin Jimenez, Half Moon Bay City Council Member. They will present their experiences about how Sheriff policies affect children and youth, and how civilian oversight can shine a light on the impact of these policies on children and help to make improvements.
