Thrive Resource Room

Welcome to Thrive Resource Room, where you will hear about Thrive updates and learn about free and affordable community resources to help your organization! This month we will feature opportunities including fundraising tools, internships, and Thrive member benefits and how to get more involved in our cross-sector community.

 

What to expect during this session:

  • Free fundraising tool: Anna Grace Millward, CEO of Stashrun, will present on how to utilize a free fundraising tool, built to transform how consumers align with brands to take action on the world’s most important causes

  • Student employment opportunities: Eli Poblitz, Transition Specialist for the Transition Partnership Program at the San Mateo Union High School District will be sharing about SMUHSD's new work-based learning program designed to provide up to 100 hours of exploratory paid work-based learning for special education high school students aged 16 or older across the district, at no cost to the employee

  • Stanford student-employees for nonprofits: Yvette Zepeda, Program Director for the Stanford Community Service Work-Study and Student Employment program, will speak about a program that connects Stanford students with local nonprofits for employment opportunities (organizations will only be responsible for 10% of student wages)

We encourage you to send staff members and volunteers (especially new ones!) to one of our monthly sessions to ensure that they are taking advantage of Thrive's resources and opportunities.

Thrive Wellness Wednesdays: Stress Management

We invite you to join Thrive and the County of San Mateo Employee Wellness Team for another session in our virtual series: Wellness Wednesdays. These sessions are held on the second Wednesday of every other month. From self-massage to mindful art, to movement exercises to meditation, we’ll continue to explore a variety of ways that we can take care of ourselves for optimal health and well-being.

 

During this month's collaborative session, we invite you to practice stress management techniques such as stretching, self massage, mindful art, and acute stress response exercises.Our speakers throughout the series include County Wellness Team members, behavioral health specialists, massage therapists, and art facilitators. We hope you and your team will join us!

 

Note: These sessions are not a replacement for professional guidance or counseling.

Voter Education and Outreach Advisory Committee (VEOAC) Meeting

VEOAC will be featuring short presentations by Bay Area leaders in voter outreach. Andrea Gil, the Program Coordinator at Youth Leadership Institute (YLI), will be presenting how she engages the community in voter outreach & civic participation advocacy. Andrea leads the Youth Empowerment Training Series, where youth leaders will learn to engage with their local community.

 

Co-chaired by San Francisco Peninsula People Power, the County Elections Office, and Thrive Alliance.

  • Collaborating to build opportunities to create a robust and thoughtful approach to hiring and retention

 And how else can we accomplish these goals?

Congressional Candidate Climate and Environment Forum

The San Mateo County chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby invites you to attend a forum in which the candidates for California's 15th Congressional District Election will answer questions on the policies that they would support if they were elected. Environmental and climate issues are of key concern to voters in our district, so please take this opportunity to find out how our potential representatives would address these issues and work for a stable climate future if elected to Congress.

San Mateo County & Silicon Valley Community Foundation: Voting Outreach Funding

Deadline: Thurs, March 17

 

The San Mateo County Elections and Registrations Division is partnering with Silicon Valley Community Foundation to make funding available for voter education and outreach in advance of the June 7, 2022 primary election. Small grants are available to organizations who are interested in developing a clear plan for nonpartisan, nonpolitical outreach focused on a precinct or community with historically lower than average turnout. If your organization is interested in applying, please email Jack Mahoney by March 17th. 

     

County of San Mateo: Microbusiness Outreach RFQ

Deadline: Fri, March 11

 

The County of San Mateo is pleased to announce a Request for Quotes (RFQ) funding opportunity for community-based organizations to support outreach efforts for the California Microbusiness COVID-19 Relief Grant Program, a new grant program to benefit microbusinesses in San Mateo County. 

  • Who can apply?: Not-for-profit organizations, such as community-based organizations, faith organizations or associations that serve residents in San Mateo County and are tax-exempt organizations

  • Funding Available: Up to $5,000 per organization

     

County of San Mateo: Immigrant Inclusion Survey

Deadline: Sun, March 20

 

To gain insight on the needs and challenges of our immigrant community, the County of San Mateo & their Office of Community Affairs invites immigrants (living, working, or going to school in San Mateo County) to take their Immigrant Inclusion Survey. Results from this survey will tell them about the barriers faced, gaps in services, and which programs are working for immigrants in San Mateo County.

 

Note: This survey is available in 12 languages. All responses are anonymous and confidential, which means nobody will know who took the survey or how they answered the questions. All questions are optional, so you can skip anything you do not want to share.

 
Artist Power Convenings

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA): Artist Power Convenings Grant - Round 3

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) is now accepting proposals from within Alameda County and San Mateo County for the Artist Power Convenings Grant, a new community investment strategy to build the capacity of artists and artist-led organizations in service of their communities. With the Artist Power Convenings Grant, YBCA wants to support artists getting together, virtually or in-person, to imagine, create, and lift up one another.

 

Note: The award amount ranges up to $2,500.

Vaccinate All 58 Neighborhood Partnership Program Application

Vaccinate All 58 is now accepting applications for their Neighborhood Partnership Program. This program aims to educate community members on safe practices for the prevention of COVID-19 and the importance of vaccinations. They are seeking neighborhood and grassroots groups to apply for awards to serve as trusted messengers in their own communities. Requests can be made and awarded on a rolling basis for up to $5,000.

Citizens Climate Lobby: Climate Change - What Works and Why

Join Elaine Salinger and Citizens Climate Lobby for a Zoom presentation about climate change actions. During this presentation, they will compare climate change solutions using a website called En-ROADS, a climate change simulation website created by MIT Sloan. They will also discuss why solutions are more or less effective and share easy actions that all of us can do to help.

  1. Local Volunteer and Donations Management (G288): This course provides strategies for managing volunteers, donations and cash before, during, and after a disaster. Content also includes how to identify resources for volunteers and donations management.

  2. Management of Spontaneous Volunteers in Disasters (G489): This course provides information on how to identify issues and challenges with managing spontaneous volunteers. Content includes elements of a spontaneous volunteer management plan and best practices to manage spontaneous volunteers. Participants will learn how to develop and implement a spontaneous volunteer management plan.
