The August Voter Engagement Brainstorm Session identified what local community organizations are planning for outreach. Our September VEOAC meeting will be an opportunity to determine what areas of the communities need additional outreach and make plans for other forms of engagement and collaboration.
We will also receive updates from the San Mateo County Elections Office.
Co-chaired by San Francisco Peninsula People Power, the County Elections Office, and Thrive Alliance.
Join the countywide coalition of Community Organizations Active in Disasters (COAD), Thrive RISE for our September Meeting, where we will receive a demo of a platform to improve access to health and social services in all phases of disaster.
Unite Us will provide a demo of their virtual tool that connects people to health and social services and streamlines case referral between service providers. Through Unite Us’ national network and software, community-based organizations, government agencies, health plans, and healthcare providers are all connected to better collaborate and meet the needs of the individuals in their communities.
The Unite Us tool is free for community-based organizations to use. Join a growing list of 50+ San Mateo County service providers currently using the platform.
All organizations are welcome at this meeting, regardless of sector or experience in responding to community emergencies. Registration is not required for these recurring meetings. Please save this link as a recurring event on your calendar for the last Wednesday of the month.

County to Purchase Two Hotels to Convert to Supportive Housing
The Board of Supervisors have voted to purchase two hotels, one in Millbrae and one in South San Francisco, as key elements in the County’s strategy to combat homelessness.
The hotels together would make available about 120 units for permanent housing for people previously experiencing homelessness while providing an array of on-site services. Once the County finalizes the purchases through an escrow process and completes renovations, the properties would help keep otherwise vulnerable residents in stable housing with access to case management, counseling, and health care clinicians. County Health Urges COVID-19 & Flu Vaccination as Respiratory Virus Season Begins
San Mateo County Health officials urge residents six months and older to get the seasonal flu vaccine and the updated COVID-19 shot, which was approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Fall and winter mark the traditional flu season, as more activities take place indoors and holiday travel is popular. COVID-19 is more transmissible in confined spaces, so there is an increased risk for respiratory viruses during this period. The CDC recommends getting the flu and COVID-19 vaccines at the same time.
