Children & Education Thrive Action Group (TAG): Moving From Theoretical Policies to Action
Tues, June 14, 3:00 - 4:00 pm
During the Candidate Forum on Children's Issues in May, many interesting ideas were proposed. Let's discuss how some of these ideas would impact community-based organizations (CBOs) and youth in San Mateo County and reflect on what effective collaboration looks like between CBOs and the San Mateo County Office of Education.
Here are some questions to get us thinking:
How can we bridge the gap between thought and action?
What are the wins and challenges of past partnerships?
What does the ideal relationship between the County and CBOs look like?
Environment & Sustainability and Basic Needs & Safety Net (TAG):
Food Waste Reduction & Recovery
Thurs, June 30, 3:30 - 5:00 pm
Senate Bill 1383, also known as California's Short-Lived Climate Pollutant Reduction Law, targets short-lived climate pollutants such as methane by limiting organic wastes while also increasing food rescue and thereby addressing food insecurity. This bill, which went into effect on January 1 of this year, requires the recovery of 20% of edible food for human consumption that would otherwise be disposed of or be composted, by 2025.
Join Thrive as we address both sides of this bill: environmentally, how food rescue in the county has reduced pollutant levels; and socially, how nonprofit organizations have been receiving and distributing the recovered, edible food to our local communities. Find out how both sides have been working together, and how more organizations and businesses can participate in recovering food while reducing organic waste.
This meeting will be an opportunity for connection building between those involved in the Environment & Sustainability and Basic Needs & Safety Net Thrive Action Groups (TAGs)
and opportunities to find out how your organization can participate in these programs.
With support from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, we will be hosting this event in Redwood City at the CZI Community Space. Location details will be sent to registered attendees. Zoom option will be available for those who would like to listen.
