Thrive Alliance, The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, and the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley are excited to announce Thrive OnBoard, a unique board match event, happening on Wednesday, May 15, from 3:30 - 7:00 pm at the CZI Community Space. This interactive event is an opportunity for nonprofit organizations and potential board members to connect network, and enjoy mini-educational sessions and sustained connections. This program is being offered as part of the Thriving Nonprofit Workforce Initiative, guided by our TNWI Steering Committee, and thanks to the support of The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, this event is free of charge. This session will explore how cultural humility is crucial for board governance in the longevity of a nonprofit's success by exploring the difference between cultural competency and cultural humility and sharing how nonprofit boards can navigate cultural dynamics through empathy. We will also discuss cultural arrogance, centering voices, representation -- do we have representation just for representation's sake? -- and application for cultural humility for long-term success.
Objectives
Clarify the distinction between cultural competency and cultural humility.
Identify whose voices are being centered and whose voices may be excluded in board discussions and decision-making.
Encourage participants to apply cultural humility principles within their board roles for more impactful and sustainable governance.

Event 2: Healthy Homes for All: Landlords & Tenants Working Towards Electrification

Renters face significant barriers to accessing electrification programs in the Bay Area due to complex qualification criteria and a variety of other factors. The barriers to participating in home electrification programs vary for single-family and multifamily dwellings. In this session, we look to models both in and outside of the Bay Area to understand the design of existing home improvement programs that serve single-family and multifamily home renters. Sean Armstrong, co-founder and Managing Principal of Redwood Energy, will present from the diverse knowledge he has accumulated throughout his extensive experience in multifamily electrification. We will present best practices for collaboration between landlords and tenants in electrification efforts, as well as barriers to their involvement in home electrification programs.
Building Momentum for Resilience Hubs Across the Bay Area

Join Thrive Alliance and Collective Resilience for a three-part workshop series to understand the landscape of resilience hubs in the Bay Area, learn the concepts and tools needed to develop resilience hubs, and develop partnerships with nonprofits, governments, and funders. We will lay the groundwork to develop a robust network of resilience hubs across the Bay Area for communities that need them most.
The workshops will be interactive, and feature guest speakers with expertise in developing resilience hubs, with opportunities for networking and peer-to-peer learning. The series is free for community members and small organizations, with a suggested fee for large organizations, businesses, and government agencies. These fees go toward speaker stipends and organizer costs, with any remaining funds to be put toward a fund for resilience hub development. Registration signs you up for all three sessions.
