In honor of Earthquake Preparedness Month, join us for a discussion on how to work towards comprehensive seismic safety in San Mateo County. Sarah Atkinson, Hazard Resilience Senior Policy Manager for SPUR will discuss seismic risk in our region, how to protect people and housing, and opportunities to integrate risk-reducing policies into upcoming Safety Element updates for multiple jurisdictions across the county. Dena Gunning, Community Risk and Resiliency Specialist for Central County Fire and Earthquake Country Alliance (ECA) Bay Area Committee Co-Chair will then share practical earthquake preparedness actions that you can take as an individual and as an organization.
Building Momentum for Resilience Hubs Across the Bay Area

Join Thrive Alliance and Collective Resilience for a three-part workshop series to understand the landscape of resilience hubs in the Bay Area, learn the concepts and tools needed to develop resilience hubs, and develop partnerships with nonprofits, governments, and funders. We will lay the groundwork to develop a robust network of resilience hubs across the Bay Area for communities that need them most.
The workshops will be interactive, and feature guest speakers with expertise in developing resilience hubs, with opportunities for networking and peer-to-peer learning. The series is free for community members and small organizations, with a suggested fee for large organizations, businesses, and government agencies. These fees go toward speaker stipends and organizer costs, with any remaining funds to be put toward a fund for resilience hub development. Registration signs you up for all three sessions.

Event 2: Healthy Homes for All: Landlords & Tenants Working Towards Electrification

Renters face significant barriers to accessing electrification programs in the Bay Area due to complex qualification criteria and a variety of other factors. The barriers to participating in home electrification programs vary for single-family and multifamily dwellings. In this session, we look to models both in and outside of the Bay Area to understand the design of existing home improvement programs that serve single-family and multifamily home renters. Sean Armstrong, co-founder and Managing Principal of Redwood Energy, will present from the diverse knowledge he has accumulated throughout his extensive experience in multifamily electrification. We will present best practices for collaboration between landlords and tenants in electrification efforts, as well as barriers to their involvement in home electrification programs.
El Concilio of San Mateo County, a Latinx-led community-based nonprofit, is now offering a monthly newsletter which welcomes any partner interested in their work related to policy, advocacy, public health, climate resilience, community engagement for hard-to-reach populations, and other areas of potential overlapping interest. The organization, which has been a long-standing partner in the community, was founded by Ortensia Lopez and is now led by Ana Avendaño. Their mission is to increase education, employment, and access to quality-of-life services to underserved communities in San Mateo County. They have offices in North Fair Oaks and East Palo Alto and an initiative based in South San Francisco.

Just Published - Fair Pay for Northern California Nonprofits: The 2024 Compensation & Benefits Survey
The 2024 survey report has been published. A record 794 nonprofit organizations in Northern California participated in the survey, resulting in the most comprehensive report they have published so far. The survey provides insights on current economic conditions and compensation levels for 290 jobs found in nonprofit organizations throughout Northern California, including an updated "Economic Environment" section that assesses the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This information can help nonprofit organizations attract and retain the best employees for their organizations in 2024 and beyond.
