Each year, the Summit convenes community members, nonprofits, faith-based organizations, government, philanthropy, academia, and the private sector. The goal continues to be to uplift the climate resilience and environmental justice priorities of frontline communities and advocate for policies and practices that reduce the adverse impacts of climate change on all San Mateo County residents. We make it a practice to center underrepresented voices, including those that are indigenous, youth, and faith-oriented.

California Launches Training Sessions to Support Workplace Violence Prevention Act Compliance
Senator Cortese has highlighted the new SB 553, the Workplace Violence Prevention Act, which is now in effect and requires comprehensive workplace violence prevention plans and training. To help employers comply with this important legislation, the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency is offering several Injury and Illness Prevention Program trainings. These sessions will provide valuable guidance on identifying and addressing workplace safety concerns.

Center for Economic Mobility: Fostering Community Collaboration in East Palo Alto
The Center for Economic Mobility in East Palo Alto is a new project that will be located in the heart of Silicon Valley. Its objective is to provide space and support for non-profits and community-focused organizations of all types. The Emerson Collective has teamed up with local workforce training group Jobtrain, which will occupy the first and second floors of the building. There is an additional 50,000 square feet of available space on the third and fourth floors. This project offers a great opportunity for groups to come in and have space to support the underserved communities of the Bay Area, while collaborating with existing non-profits and charitable groups in the neighborhood such as the Boys and Girls Club, College Track, The Sobrato Foundation, and others. Both leasing and purchasing opportunities are available.

Opportunity for Nonprofits: Harvard Business School Alumni Offering Pro Bono Consulting Support
Harvard Business School Community Partners is currently accepting applications from 501(c)3 organizations seeking pro bono consulting support from HBS alumni. They offer consulting projects that address strategic challenges and span a 3-4 month period, covering topics such as strategic planning, scaling, business planning, marketing strategies, financial assessments, and Board development. In addition, they also provide 90-minute brainstorming sessions where alumni volunteers help organizations with focused dilemmas. The deadline for consulting project applications is August 11, 2024, for Fall projects, while the deadline for brainstorming session applications is September 15th for October/November sessions.
