Healthy Homes for All: Expanding Access to Electrification Programs for Renters in San Mateo County

Thur, May 16 - Thur, May 23, Virtual

Healthy Homes for All: Expanding Access to Electrification Programs for Renters in San Mateo County is a two part-series sponsored by Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE) that explores the vital role of electrification in promoting home health and sustainability in San Mateo County communities. We explore the unique barriers that renters face to electrify their homes, highlighting the challenges of developing and implementing electrification programs that serve both renters and homeowners. We will also identify best practices for fostering landlord-tenant collaboration for a greener, healthier future. Join us for this two-part series and see more details on each event below:

Event 1: Understanding the Challenges of Home Electrification for Renters

Thursday, May 16, 2:00 - 3:30 pm, Virtual

In this session, we will explore the often-overlooked impacts of gas-powered home appliances on respiratory health and the landscape of electrification programs that aim to promote healthier homes, energy savings, and atmospheric carbon reduction. We will explore the programmatic challenges that often leave renters unable to electrify their homes. We will hear from Rise South City, Climate Resilient Communities, and Peninsula Clean Energy in this event.

Join us for this interactive discussion on health, energy equity, and electrification.

Event 2: Healthy Homes for All: Landlords & Tenants Working Towards Electrification

Thursday, May 23, 2:00 - 3:30 pm, Virtual

Renters face significant barriers to accessing electrification programs in the Bay Area due to complex qualification criteria and a variety of other factors. The barriers to participating in home electrification programs vary for single-family and multifamily dwellings. In this session, we look to models both in and outside of the Bay Area to understand the design of existing home improvement programs that serve single-family and multifamily home renters. Sean Armstrong, co-founder and Managing Principal of Redwood Energy, will present from the diverse knowledge he has accumulated throughout his extensive experience in multifamily electrification. We will present best practices for collaboration between landlords and tenants in electrification efforts, as well as barriers to their involvement in home electrification programs.
